AEMILIA LEPIDA - BY MARCUS CHRISTOPH SADELER AFTER AEGIDIUS SADELER (1570 - 1629)

Late 16th/early17th century portrait engraving of  Aemilia Lepida, depicted half-length  in her robes and extensive jewellery by Aegidius Sadeler.

Marcus Christoph Sadeler, 1597 - 1629. Aegidius Sadeler or Aegidius Sadeler II  (1570–1629) was a Flemish engraver who was principally active at the Prague court of Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor and his successors. 

Aemilia Lepida (5 BC – c. 43 AD) Emilia Lepida was a noble Roman woman and matron. She was the first great-grandchild of the Emperor Augustus She was the first great-grandchild of Emperor Augustus and the noblewoman Scribonia, being the firstborn child of Julia the Younger, who was their only daughter Julia the Elder's first daughter. Her father was Lucius Aemilius Paullus, who was the son of Paulus Aemilius Lepius and grandson of Lucius Aemilius Lepidus Paullus, and therefore a great-nephew of the triumvir Lepidus, and of a distinguished and ancient patrician family, the Aemilii Lepidi.

Condition: Fine and crisp with one very minor spot of age related toning. Housed in an antique frame.
